Empowering Students & Research Scholars

The Aster Review was founded on a simple observation. Each year, thousands of high school, undergraduate students, and researchers complete substantial research papers, analytical essays, and original investigations. Most of this work is read by exactly one person, the instructor who grades it, before being filed away or lost to a hard drive.

We started The Aster Review to change that.

Advancing Research and Scholarship

At The Aster Review, our mission is to empower our authors by providing a platform for their research and scholarly writing. We are dedicated to nurturing academic growth and fostering a vibrant community of scholars who contribute to the advancement of knowledge. Through our journal, we aim to elevate voices and encourage collaboration within the academic landscape.

Our Mission

The Aster Review was founded to provide high school and undergraduate students and researchers with a credible publication venue for original research, analytical essays, and scholarly writing. Too often, talented writers complete substantial work for classes, independent study, or research programs, only to have it read by a single instructor and never shared.

Our mission is to bring that work into a wider conversation. Accepted papers are published in our online archive, indexed for citation, and made available to a readership of students, educators, and researchers. Authors retain full copyright to their work.

We welcome submissions across disciplines, from history and literary criticism to economics, biology, mathematics, and the social sciences.

Our Name

The aster is a late-blooming star flower, named from the Greek word for star. It opens after other flowers have closed for the season, often unnoticed by anyone not looking for it. We think that is a fitting image for the kind of work we publish. Early-career scholarship rarely arrives with fanfare, but the best of it has the same quality as a star: clear, particular, and pointing toward something larger than itself.

Editorial Philosophy

We hold three convictions about student scholarship.

First, we believe that academic work should be evaluated on its intellectual merit rather than the age, academic level, or institutional affiliation of its author. Exceptional scholarship can emerge at any stage of a student’s academic journey, and strong work deserves to be taken seriously.

Second, we believe that the review process is among the most valuable aspects of academic publishing. Publication decisions matter, but thoughtful critique and constructive feedback are equally important. Every submission receives careful consideration, and our reviewers strive to provide meaningful feedback that helps authors strengthen their research and writing.

Third, we believe that scholarly publishing should foster intellectual growth, curiosity, and engagement with ideas. Our goal is not simply to publish research, but to cultivate a community of writers and thinkers who are committed to rigorous inquiry, thoughtful analysis, and academic excellence.
